Minden police arrested a Sarepta man after he was reported to have stolen cash from a vehicle.
Cameron Alfred, 18, of the 300 block of Harper Street in Sarepta, was charged with simple burglary Tuesday.
Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper says the incident occurred around 3 a.m., when a man appeared to be sleeping in the driver’s seat of a vehicle at an apartment complex on Lewisville Road.
“The victim indicated that he and his wife were coming out of the apartment complex getting ready to go to work,” he said, “and when they walked outside, they observed a person sitting in the driver’s seat of their vehicle. The victim confronted the person inside his vehicle, and the suspect indicated he may have been sleepwalking and was not sure why he was in the car.”
Officer Brandon Curry was dispatched to the apartment complex, and Cropper says the victim explained the reason for calling to Curry. The suspect – identified as Alfred – was asked to exit the vehicle, at which time, the officer noted as Alfred was wearing a hoodie as he exited the vehicle.
“In the pocket of the hoodie, he had cash that he’d removed from the console of the victim’s vehicle,” he said. “Mr. Alfred was advised of his rights and transported to the Minden Police Department for booking on the charge of simple burglary.”
He was later transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.

Bet this is the fool that’s been stealing cash from cars all over Minden.
People who leave cash in their vehicles are somewhat fools also, as is anyone leaving valuables in plain sight.
