Second annual Food Fest set for Sept. 28

by Amber McDown

The second annual Food Fest fundraiser supporting 22 Hands Up will be held Sunday, September 28, at the Minden Community House, located at 711 Gladney Street. The event is scheduled from 1:30 to 4:30 PM, with doors opening at 1 PM.

Tickets are $40, with proceeds benefitting youth programs through 22 Hands Up, a nonprofit dedicated to providing education, employment, and empowerment opportunities for young people.

“We’ve got a lot of food, and it’s going to be great,” said founder Darrell Hampton.

Last year’s inaugural Food Fest drew significant community support and featured an auction of sports memorabilia, including autographed football items. The event also included guest appearances such as Grambling State University Hall of Fame baseball coach Wilbert Ellis.

22 Hands Up was founded to address the challenges facing youth struggling in school or within the juvenile court system. The group focuses on building personal relationships that promote responsibility, prosocial behavior, and a sense of accomplishment.
