Seeds Women’s Center expands with new building

by Amber McDown

Seeds Women’s Center has purchased the former Ward Building at 308 Pine Street, doubling its current space and paving the way for expanded services. The center provides free pregnancy and family support services to the community.

Executive Director Amber Bradford expressed enthusiasm about the move and its potential to enhance the nonprofit’s mission. “We offer optimal healthcare in a safe and confidential setting at no cost,” she said. The center’s services include pregnancy testing, nurse consultations, ultrasounds, parenting classes, and STD information.

The new facility will feature private counseling and ultrasound rooms, an expanded baby boutique, and a meeting space for parenting classes, board meetings, and prayer gatherings. It will also allow the center to wash baby boutique donations on-site.

Bradford highlighted the center’s holistic approach. “Sometimes the first need isn’t pregnancy. It’s housing, food, or transportation,” she said. Counseling and helping clients to set their priorities is paramount. “We’re here, and we love you. There are other ways to get love. And God loves you.”

With its proximity to the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), the new location aims to become a go-to resource for referrals. Renovations are planned, with the center expected to open by late January or early February 2025.

Community support has already poured in with donations such as curtains, lockers, and a kitchen table, and Bradford expects youth groups to assist with the move.

Seeds Women’s Center also noted an upcoming benefit for donors. Starting in 2025, those contributing to pregnancy centers may receive a 50% tax credit. Contributions to Seeds are tax-deductible, with options for monthly partnerships, planned giving, and in-kind gifts.
