Shongaloo man accused of sex crime with juvenile

SHONGALOO — The Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man after reportedly watching his 14-year-old niece take a bath.

Michael Dwayne Hayslip, 51, of the 400 block of Henry Smith Road in Bernice, was arrested on charges of indecent behavior with a juvenile and failure to register as a sex offender.

Around 9:30 p.m., Monday, deputies were dispatched to the 9000 block of Highway 159 in Shongaloo in reference to an unwanted person. Upon arrival, the complainant reportedly told deputies that Hayslip had been living with them for about the past five months.

According to the report, the complainant said Hayslip put a ladder up to the bathroom window outside the residence and was watching her daughter bathe. When she caught him, she told Hayslip she was calling the sheriff’s office, and he reportedly fled the residence on foot.

Deputies located Hayslip walking down Highway 2, just inside the Claiborne Parish line and placed him under arrest without incident.

He was then transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
