Sibley woman arrested for CDS by fraud

by Minden Press-Herald

A Sibley woman was arrested in connection to a case where a Jonesboro dentist was reportedly illegally prescribing narcotics.

Kimberly A. McCoy, 26, of the 100 block of Buggy Run Road, was arrested Wednesday, Nov. 4, by Louisiana State Police Troop F on 14 counts of obtaining CDS by fraud. Five others were arrested on the same charges, ranging from four counts to 24.

Jonesboro dentist Dr. Charles Brewer was arrested the same day on 20 counts of illegally prescribing narcotics. State police executed a search warrant at his place of business that day, seizing documents related to case.

Troop F public information officer Michael Reichardt says McCoy turned herself in to police.

“They called and talked to her on the phone and she voluntarily drove herself to Jackson Parish and was booked in Jackson (parish),” he said.

He says her arrest resulted from an ongoing investigation into Dr. Brewer’s office.

“A bunch of documents were taken from his office and they (investigators) are still looking over the files,” he said. “It was an investigation we started in September of this year. She was receiving numerous prescriptions over a year’s time and they were overlapping, and that’s the reason she was charged with obtaining CDS by fraud.”

Reichardt says she was Dr. Brewer’s patient.
