Sign up extended for Christmas Parade

by Minden Press-Herald

Sign up to participate in the 2015 Minden Evening Lions Club Christmas Parade has been extended as the parade has been rescheduled to Friday, Dec. 4.

Parade coordinator Jessica Lewis says anyone wishing to sign up may do so over the phone as well. Potential participants may sign up until the time of the parade, she said.

“They can call me and I can fill out the application over the phone,” she said. “Or if they want to show up, they will be put in the lineup.”

Due to wet weather Saturday, the parade was rescheduled for 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4. The same rules apply, she said.

Lineup begins at 3 p.m., at First United Methodist Church and entrants are asked to arrive at that time in order to get a space. There will be no space reservations.

They are asking that no one dress up as Santa Claus as he is making a special visit to Minden to help usher in the Christmas season.

The grand marshal this year will be Sandra Samuel, supporting Webster’s CASA office. New participants this year include local nonprofits, churches and local schools.

Tommy McMurray, secretary of the Minden Evening Lions Club, says the parade will be at night and all entrants will need to have some kind of lighting on their floats and/or vehicles. All floats are encouraged to play Christmas music if possible.

For those who wish to throw candy or trinkets, walkers must be present on each side of the float.

“You must have adults walking on both sides of the float,” he said.

Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper says the streets will be closed about 5:45 Friday. The parade will begin at the church, and make a loop around the Webster Parish Courthouse and return to the church.

To sign up by phone, call Lewis at 318-465-6726.
