Special election announced for Justice of the Peace vacancy in Webster Parish

Governor Jeff Landry has officially announced a special election to fill the vacancy for Justice of the Peace in District 1 of Webster Parish. The office remains unoccupied following an unqualified candidate pool during the July 17-19, 2024 qualifying period for the November 5, 2024 election.

According to state law, a special election must be called when more than 12 months remain in the unexpired term of a judgeship. This election will be conducted in accordance with Louisiana Revised Statute 18:621 and other applicable election codes.

Details of the Special Election

The special primary election is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, 2025. If necessary, a general election will follow on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Interested candidates must file their notice of candidacy between Wednesday, January 29, 2025, and Friday, January 31, 2025, by 4:30 PM, accompanied by either a qualifying fee or a nominating petition as stipulated by law.

The elections will be overseen by the Louisiana Secretary of State, the Commissioner of Elections, and the Parish Board of Election Supervisors, among other election officials. The results will be canvassed and announced in accordance with state regulations.

This special election marks a significant step to ensure the continued governance and judicial oversight within Webster Parish’s Justice of the Peace District 1. Local residents are encouraged to stay informed and participate in the upcoming electoral process.
