As part of Stroke Awareness Month, Minden Medical Center hosted a celebration and informational reception at the inpatient rehabilitation center Thursday. Stroke survivors and those who cared for them came to share in the celebration.

Jon Fowler, emergency department nurse manager talked about the signs and symptoms of a stroke. He says it's important to remember FAST: Face, Arms, Speech and Time. Time is a critical factor, he says, as stroke victims have a three hour window in which to seek treatment before damage may become permanent. Guests introduced themselves and had a chance to talk to each other and tell their stories. Michelle Bates/Press-Herald
