Sunny, chilly weather greets crowds at Minden Fasching Parade

by Amber McDown

Sunny skies and near-freezing temperatures set the scene Saturday as the annual Minden Mardi Gras Fasching Parade rolled down Elm Street and through downtown, drawing families and visitors for an afternoon of festive celebration.

Despite the cold, crowds lined the parade route bundled in coats, hats and blankets as colorful floats, marching groups and riders made their way through the city streets. The bright sunshine helped offset the brisk air, creating a classic winter parade atmosphere.

Children and adults alike gathered along sidewalks and in lawn chairs, waving to riders and collecting throws as the procession passed. Laughter and music carried through downtown, with spectators appearing eager to embrace the celebration regardless of the chill.

Local businesses and organizations were represented among the entries, contributing to a parade known for blending Mardi Gras traditions with Minden’s unique Fasching heritage. Decorations in purple, green and gold were visible throughout the route, adding to the festive mood.

While temperatures hovered around the freezing mark, the weather remained dry and calm, allowing parade activities to continue without interruption. Many attendees came prepared for the conditions, layering clothing and bringing hot drinks to stay comfortable.

By the time the last floats cleared the route, the overall mood remained upbeat, with families lingering to visit and enjoy the remainder of the afternoon.
