GRAMBLING, La. – In a pivotal move during today’s meeting, the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System’s Executive Committee announced the appointment of Dr. Connie Walton as the interim president of Grambling State University. Currently serving as the institution’s provost and vice president for academic affairs, Dr. Walton brings over three decades of experience to her new role.
With a profound connection to Grambling State University, Dr. Walton’s journey comes full circle, having started as an undergraduate student at the institution. “My life is a testimony to the impact that this university can have on a student’s life. I knew as an undergraduate student at Grambling State University that I wanted to come back and be a part of the faculty,” expressed Dr. Walton. “This appointment provides an additional way to serve this great institution and help shape the lives of students. When the next president of Grambling State University is identified, I look forward to supporting that person’s strategic goals.”
Dr. Walton’s leadership at Grambling has been marked by her commitment to advancing cybersecurity and nursing programs, both of which have seen significant progress under her tenure. UL System President and CEO Rick Gallot, who previously served as the president of Grambling for seven years, expressed confidence in Dr. Walton’s ability to guide the institution during this transitional period. “I am supremely confident that Grambling will be well cared for under Dr. Walton’s interim leadership. Dr. Walton’s interim appointment is now subject to ratification by the full Board of Supervisors at its February meeting.
