Veterans honored at Doyline softball game

by Amber McDown

Veterans were recognized Monday evening, March 23, during a softball game in Doyline that featured a large flag ceremony and community participation.

Prior to the game, a 60-by-30-foot American flag was unfurled on the field by members of the Doyline team, along with their opponents from the Mansfield Wolverines. The young women held the flag taut during the performance of the National Anthem, which was sung by Louisiana National Guard Sgt. Tristian Fincher.

The event was organized with support from WoodmenLife Chapter 54 of Shreveport. According to organizer Dustin Hayes, the organization covered gate admission and provided concessions for veterans in attendance.

The recognition event was held as part of an effort to honor local veterans and bring the community together.
