Webster Parish 4-H is gearing up for a brand new program year with Webster 4-H’ers. The calendar has been set, and there is plenty to get involved in, including four project clubs, various workshops, many contests, and regional and state events and camps.
Project clubs in Webster include Livestock, Shooting Sports, Celebrate Girls, and Junior Leaders. The livestock program is an educational program in which any 4-H member in grades 4-12 can participate. 4-H members will have an opportunity to exhibit beef, sheep, swine, poultry, rabbits, and dairy animals at four major shows and several small shows throughout Louisiana. The 4-H Shooting Sports program is aimed at teaching youth the safe handling of firearms and good hunting ethics. We offer disciplines in archery, BB gun, shotgun, air pistol, hunting skills, and rifle. All youth wanting to compete will have to attend a minimum of 8 hours of training by our certified coaches and have successfully completed the Hunter’s Education course. The program is open to all 4-H youth, from beginners to the very experienced. Celebrate Girls is for 4-H girls in grades 5-7 and is intended to give Webster parish girls a place to meet new friends, engage in hands on activities, and learn all about various topics from arts and crafts to cooking to agriculture. The 4-H Junior Leader Club is open to Webster 4-H’ers in the 7th-12th grades. This project club is meant to provide members with an opportunity to learn the skills needed to become a leader while giving to the community and spending time with friends. Junior Leaders provide assistance with 4-H events and assume more challenging leadership roles at the local, parish, and state 4-H levels.
Webster 4-H will also be introducing a parish-wide Cloverbuds group this year that will meet once a month at The Farm of Cultural Crossroads beginning in November. Cloverbuds is intended for our 3rd graders in the community that just can’t wait fast enough to get in on the 4-H fun! Cloverbud meetings will focus on art and are open to ANY 3rd grader in Webster parish.
Other events and contests this year include the traditional holiday-themed contests, a pet show, a cooking camp, fashion and interior design workshop, floral and gardening workshop, summer camp for 4th-6th graders, Challenge and LOST camps for 7th and 8th graders, 4-H University for teens, and much more!
4-H is open to all Webster parish youth in grades 4th-12th grades. 4-H students meet monthly at club meetings at their school. Home-schooled or virtual students may enroll directly through the office. Enrollment for the 2022-2023 program year opens on September 1, and school club meetings will kick off in September.
