The Webster Parish School Board approved all agenda items unanimously during its regular meeting held Tuesday, April 14, at the Harper Pathways to Excellence Center.
Board members Ronnie Rhymes (District 5), Linda Kinsey (District 7), and Jerry Lott (District 11) were absent.
Kevin Thompson of Taylor and Sons presented the April Employee of the Month award to Melanie Campbell, a special education teacher at North Webster Upper Elementary. Additional details on the recognition are expected to be published separately.
The board also held multiple recognitions during the meeting, including Students of the Year, Support Workers of the Year, Teachers of the Year, Principals of the Year, science fair winners, and Educators Rising state winners. Details of those recognitions were reported in a separate article.
Among new business items, the board approved a series of student travel requests. Approximately 200 North Webster Junior High School students will travel by charter bus to Medieval Times and the Dallas Zoo in Dallas, Texas, on May 1, with transportation costs covered by Title I funds and remaining expenses paid by students.
The board also approved travel for Minden High School theatre and choir students, along with North Webster High School theatre students, to attend a production of “Little Shop of Horrors” at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas, on April 17.
Ursula Hullaby received approval to attend the Conference on Crimes Against Women in Dallas, Texas, from May 18-21, with funding provided through Title V.
Additionally, North Webster High School and Lakeside Junior/Senior High School students and sponsors were approved to attend the 2026 Educators Rising National Conference and Competition, scheduled for June 19-24 in Portland, Oregon, funded through the general fund.
Cheerleaders from Lakeside Junior/Senior High School and Minden High School were also approved to attend camp at Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, Texas, from May 28-31, with costs covered through cheerleader funds.
The board approved adoption of the Flex Made Easy Plan certificate of resolution and authorized a field trip for J.L. Jones third-grade students to visit the Caldwell Zoo on May 1.
During the personnel report, Personnel Director Dr. Rebecca Wilson noted that 41 students will attend the State Literary Rally.
The next regular meeting will be held Monday, May 4 at 6PM in the school board offices.The meeting was open to the public.
