Last week the Webster Parish School Board received the report containing the District Performance Scores and School Performance Scores for Webster Parish. These scores provide a snapshot of how the school district is performing.
“In the Spring of 2018, the Webster Parish School Board’s actions sent a clear message to all stakeholders that they fully support increased student achievement in Webster Parish. We believe the improved district-wide results in virtually every area are a direct result of the board’s unanimous support of new initiatives and strategies that were implemented during the 2018-19 school year,” read a WPSB press release,
“We are thrilled to report that all areas showed growth throughout the entire district while maintaining satisfactory results in ACT/WorkKeys. In addition, the number of potential dropouts has decreased significantly throughout the district thanks to the intensified efforts of all personnel.”
The District Performance Score increased from 68.3 to a 70.1 which is a 1.8 point growth. This means that the district is now only 4.9 points away from an overall “B” rating.
“This is significant as new curricula and initiatives have been introduced in a relatively short period of time at all grade levels throughout the district,” the press release read.
K-8 Assessment Index saw a 0.6 increase and K-8 Progress grew 1.7 points for this reporting period. The 9-12 Assessment Index grew .2 points and the overall 9-12 Progress increased 1.7 points.
The release also stated that the strength of diploma rating grew 6.9 points and the graduation cohort rate grew an impressive 7.6 points for the 2018-19 year. “These two areas have been rated as an “A” and we applaud the achievement of these students and our staff who have worked tirelessly to achieve this rating,” read the release.
Eight of our fourteen schools showed growth in their overall School Performance Score. Three of our four high schools are now rated as a “B” with the fourth high school growing 4.6 points (a Pre-K through grade 12 configuration) and is now only 2.6 points away from the “B” rating.
“We will continue to pursue excellence in all areas at all schools. The initiatives that have been put in place will continue and we anxiously await the success that we know is coming at the end of this school year. While we are pleased with these overall results, we will never be satisfied until we know that our schools are achieving at the highest level possible that in the end, directly impacts the educational achievement of all of our students,” read the release.
