Celebration of Life Services for Mrs. Wernder Sanders Jefferson will be held Saturday, July 21st at 11:00 A.M. at the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Doyline, LA with Rev. Richard Jefferson, officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Mark Baptist Church Cemetery in Doyline, LA.
Wernder Jefferson was born December 13, 1915 to the late Fred Sanders and Patsy Burks Sanders. She was one of three children born to this parentage. At the age of nine years old, Mrs. Wernder Jefferson accepted Christ as her personal savior and united with the St Mary CME Church in Doyline, LA.
She united in Holy Matrimony to Earnest Jefferson Sr. on December 17, 1933. To their union, fifteen children were born.
In 1938, she united with the St. Mark Baptist Church in order that all of her children would be raised in the Baptist church and was a faithful member for over eighty plus years. She faithfully served with her husband as First Lady of the following churches her husband pastored: Sweet Home B.C. of Jonesboro, LA, Mt. Nebo and Mt. Sinai of Poole, LA, Hebrew B.C. of Ringgold, LA, Mt. Elam of Heflin, LA and White Oak B.C of Homer, LA. Sister Jefferson was an active member of Southwest New-Line District Association where she was known for her culinary skills.
Mrs. Jefferson, a devoted wife and mother, enjoyed canning, quilting, and embroidery. She daily read and studied her Bible and Sunday School lessons.
She departed this life on July 14, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Freddie L. Jefferson and Earnest Jefferson, Jr; one daughter, Ida B. Jefferson; two sisters, Mary Sanders Fuller and Odessa Sanders Lott; one brother Sullivan Sanders.
A Centenarian, Wernder Sanders Jefferson leaves four generations to cherish her precious memory, eight sons: Joseph O. Jefferson (Lynette) of Doyline, LA, Robert M. Jefferson (Joyce) of O’Fallon, MO, Frank W. Jefferson (Bobbie) of Lake Charles, LA, Willie B. Jefferson (Pamela) of Dallas, TX, David Jefferson (Linda) of Warren, NJ, Roy A. Jefferson (Betty) of Leesville, LA, Richard J. Jefferson (Abigail) of Doyline, LA, and Clyde N. Jefferson (Jeanette) of Sibley, LA; four daughters: Ethel Breton (Louis) and Genetta Hardy, both of Middletown, DE, Estella J. Taylor (Henry) of Shreveport, LA and Ada Lewis (Anthony) of Florissant, MO; thirty-six grandchildren; forty-four great grandchildren: five great great grandchildren; nieces, Eurdell Cleveland and Brunette Johnson; nephews, Lonnie Lott and Eddie Jefferson; two special great nieces, Lorretta Rockemore and Nellie Smith; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 20 in the chapel of Kennon’s Mortuary from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. with Family Hour from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St Mark Baptist Church.
