A winter weather threat is expected to develop across northern Louisiana through the weekend, with precipitation changing to freezing rain, sleet and possibly snow as an Arctic air mass pushes into the region.
Forecasters say the primary concern is freezing rain and ice, with northern Louisiana and adjacent regions in a corridor at risk for hazardous conditions that could leave bridges and roadways slick and difficult to travel. Ice accretion on power lines and tree limbs could lead to outages and infrastructure issues if significant accumulations occur.
Temperatures behind the storm will plunge well below freezing Sunday into early next week, raising the chance of hard freezes and lingering ice on untreated surfaces.
