Minden Police arrested a woman for second-degree battery when she turned herself in after reportedly beating up her cousin.
Holley Clayton, 32, of the 600 block of Buchannan Street, is accused of punching her cousin in the face with a closed fist several times when an argument took place over her current boyfriend, who is her cousin’s ex-boyfriend around 2:45 a.m. Sunday, Police Chief Steve Cropper said. When she realized how badly her cousin was injured, she dropped her off in the parking lot of the emergency room and left, he said.
“Minden Medical Center had security working at the hospital, and someone came through the emergency room door and heard a woman screaming,” he said. “It just happened to be one of our officers working security. He went out and discovered a female subject with a lot of blood on her face and blood on the curb where she was laying.”
Medical personnel got her inside and treated her. She appeared to be intoxicated and had suffered a broken nose and a concussion, Cropper said.
On Monday, Clayton went to police headquarters to inquire about possible charges against her. Det. Sgt. Ryan Barnette questioned her and she admitted to the incident, Cropper said.
“The suspect had some swelling and bruising where she’d used her hand to beat her cousin,” he said. “She was released because, at the time, the victim had not filed any charges.”
Barnette contacted the victim later that day, and she told him she wished to pursue charges. A warrant for Clayton’s arrest was obtained, and when she learned about it, she turned herself in, Cropper said.
She was then transferred to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
