Women’s college basketball: Lady Techsters fall on the road to WKU

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Louisiana Tech fell to Western Kentucky 64-56 Wednesday night at E.A. Diddle Arena.

The Lady Techsters fell to 8-15 overall and 2-6 in Conference USA, while WKU improved to 14-10 and 5-4 in league play.

Louisiana Tech opened the game red hot from the field and jumped out to a 15-9 lead after the first quarter. The Techsters shot 6-of-13 for 46.2 percent and held an 8-3 advantage in second-chance points.

The shots kept falling for LA Tech in the second, connecting on 53.3 percent and 4-of-8 from long range while holding WKU to just 8-of-28 in the first half. Tech took a 36-22 advantage into halftime.

However, WKU was familiar with being down double figures and never gave up. The Lady Toppers orchestrated their ninth come-from-behind win, including their fourth by double figures.

The Tech offense came out of the locker room and was out of sorts. The Techsters committed 12 turnovers and shot just 34.8 percent from the field.

Salma Bates led LA Tech in scoring with 14 in 25 minutes, connecting on four triples. Anna Larr Roberson had another strong effort with nine points and seven rebounds. Anja Bukvic had nine points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Alexis Mead led WKU with 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and five steals, While Teresa Faustino had 11.

Tech finished the game at 43.1 percent shooting (22-of-51) with 10 treys. WKU finished at 41.1 percent (23-of-56) with four 3-pointers.
