The Minden All-Stars won the Diamond Youth Baseball 9U state tournament in dominating fashion Sunday at Tinsley Park in Bossier City.
Minden dominated Alexandria 14-0 in four innings in the championship game. Minden finished the tournament 6-0 with four shutouts. Its closest win was by three runs with the second-closest by eight.
Minden will represent Louisiana in the World Series July 15-19 in Montgomery, Ala.
The championship team is comprised of Nash Leonard, Liam Hurley, Jett Jones, Brooks Lewis, Calvin Pendergrass, Ridge Reno, Noah Minter, Brooks Ingles, Lincoln Gibson, Parker McEachern, Hudson McCain and Easton Williams.
According to stats on its GameChanger site, seven Minden players combined for 12 hits. Leonard had three. Ingles, Jones and Reno had two apiece. Hurley, Gibson and Williams all had one.
Jones had two RBI. Leonard, Hurley, Ingles all had one. Minden also took advantage of five walks and several Alexandria mistakes.
Leonard and Hurley combined on a no-hitter. Leonard struck out three in the first inning.
Hurley didn’t allow a hit or walk and struck out five in the final three innings.
Minden started fast, scoring four runs in the first inning and five in the second. Minden added one in the third and four in the fourth.
The Minden All-Stars completed a successful run in the 7U Coach Pitch state tournament Sunday in Vidalia.
Minden fell to Concordia in an elimination game and finished the tournament 4-2.
