Youth baseball: Minden All-Stars one victory away from winning 9U state tournament

The Minden All-Stars are one victory away from winning the Diamond Youth Baseball 9U state tournament.

Minden defeated Ville Platte 7-4 and Concordia 16-8 Saturday to advance to the championship round at Tinsley Park in Bossier City. Minden plays Alexandria Sunday at 10 a.m.

Minden defeated Alexandria 2-0 Friday. If Alexandria wins Sunday morning’s game, the teams will face off again for the championship.

The Minden 7U All-Stars won two elimination games Saturday in their state tournament in Vidalia, defeating Buckeye 4-2 and 7-6.

Minden plays Concordia in another elimination game Sunday at 9 a.m. if Minden wins, it plays Ruston in the championship round.

The Minden 8U All-Stars dropped a tough 3-1 decision to Haughton in an elimination game in the North Regional tournament in Shreveport.

According to stats on its GameChanger site, seven Minden players combined for seven hits in the 9U team’s victory over Ville Platte.

Nash Leonard and Calvin Pendergrass had two hits each. Liam Hurley, Brooks Ingles, Lincoln Gibson, Noah Minter and Hudson McCain all had one.

McCain had two RBI. Leonard, Ingles, Jett Jones and Minter all had one. 

Leonard, Liam Hurley, Jones and Ingles all pitched. Hurley had five strikeouts.

Leonard had two hits, including a home run, against Concordia. Gibson had two hits and two RBI. Hurley, Ingles and Easton Williams had one hit apiece. 

Ingles had three RBI. Leonard, Jones, McCain, Williams and Parker McEachern all had one.

Ridge Reno and allowed one hit in 2 1/3 innings. Minter pitched the final 2 2/3 innings.

Minden scored four runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good at 9-8. Minden added three in the fourth and four in the fifth.
