Youth softball: Minden All-Stars close in on DYS 15U state title; 8U team finishes runner-up

The Minden All-Stars are one victory away from winning the Diamond Youth Softball 15U state tournament.

Minden defeated Jefferson Parish Recreation District West 17-7 Saturday to advance to Sunday’s championship round In Metairie.

The Minden 8U All-Stars completed an outstanding summer with a runner-up finish in their state tournament in Buckeye.

Minden defeated fellow District 4 member Sabine 8-7 and Grant 7-4 to advance to the championship round. But Sabine came back to defeat Minden twice and take the title. Minden completed the tournament with a 5-2 record.

The Minden 10U All-Stars defeated JPRD West 8-5 in an elimination game in their tournament. But they lost a hard-fought game against Jackson Parish 5-2.

According to its GameChanger site, Ella Wood ended the 15U team’s game against JPRD West with a grand slam home run in the bottom of the fifth. Wood also had a double and finished with six RBI.

Brayleigh Lewis went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Kenzie Pamintuan had two hits, including a double, and two RBI.

Eastyn Pate had a double. Mckinley James had a single. Lola Huddleston and Erin Danzy had one RBI each.

James and Emmaline Harmon scored three runs each. Rhea Waller, Lewis, Huddleston and Danzy all scored two. Wood, Pamintuan and Loralee Roberts scored one apiece.

Wood allowed four hits and struck out seven.
