Grand jury hands down 2nd degree murder indictment

A Webster Parish Grand Jury indicted a Cotton Valley teen in the murder of a North Webster High School classmate. Joshua Darelle Lewis, 18, was indicted on the charge of second degree murder.

He was arrested in late November for the murder of Jaylon Thomas, 17, of Cullen.

According to reports at the time of his arrest, Lewis confessed to killing Thomas.

Police said the shooting stemmed from a disagreement from two other teens, reportedly over a female, which eventually led to a disagreement between Lewis and Thomas.

Thomas’ body was found near a church Nov. 27. Sixteen gunshots were reportedly fired during the altercation. Thomas’ body was sent to Little Rock for autopsy. Lewis later turned himself in to authorities.

Lewis’ bond is set at two million dollars.  He is scheduled for arraignment on Feb. 12, 2018.
