Small business owners across Webster Parish will soon have the chance to apply for $20,000 grants through a new national initiative aimed at helping local entrepreneurs grow, innovate, and strengthen their communities.
Main Street America and American Express have partnered to launch the Amex Shop Small Grant Program, which will provide an initial $5 million to fund 250 grants nationwide. Applications open Saturday, November 29, 2025 — the same day as Small Business Saturday.
According to the program announcement, every transaction made at a qualifying small business using an eligible American Express card on Small Business Saturday will generate an additional $1 donation to the grant fund, helping expand the number of grants available.
Local business owners in Minden, Springhill, and other Webster Parish communities who meet eligibility requirements can apply through the Main Street America website once applications open. Program details, including terms, conditions, and frequently asked questions, will be released the same day.
The program’s goal is to boost small businesses that play a vital role in local economies, especially in smaller towns. “Supporting small businesses means supporting the heart of our communities,” the release stated.
Small Business Saturday, founded by American Express in 2010, encourages consumers to shop locally on the Saturday following Thanksgiving. Since its launch, shoppers have reported spending an estimated $223 billion at small businesses on that day, according to American Express data.
To celebrate, American Express is also offering complimentary “I Shopped Small” stickers for small businesses to share with customers. Businesses and chambers of commerce can order up to two packs of 50 sticker sheets while supplies last.
Local organizations such as Minden Main Street and the Greater Minden Chamber are expected to encourage participation among Webster Parish businesses. Business owners are also urged to take advantage of free marketing resources and promotions offered through the Shop Small campaign.
Residents can support the effort by shopping local, leaving positive online reviews, and sharing their experiences on social media using the hashtag #ShopSmall.
