The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration in Minden will include a series of events designed to honor the legacy and dream of Dr. King. The festivities will begin on Sunday, January 19 and continue through February 15, featuring opportunities for community service, reflection, and celebration.
Commemorative Service The celebration will kick off with a commemorative service at 3 PM on Sunday, January 19, at Mt. Zion CME Church. Dr. Grady Smith, principal of Woodlawn High School in Shreveport, will serve as the keynote speaker. The event will also include the presentation of MLK Leadership, Trailblazer, and contest awards.
Day of Service and Reflection On Monday, January 20, a Day of Service and Giving will encourage residents to engage in community outreach. The day will begin with an MLK Prayer Call at 8 AM and will be followed by an Ecumenical March at 10 AM on MLK Drive. The day will conclude with MLK Community Reflections at 6 PM, held virtually via Zoom.
Black History Parade and Youth Rally The celebration will culminate on Saturday, February 15, with the MLK Black History Parade and Youth Rally. The parade will begin at 11 AM in downtown Minden, bringing the community together to celebrate Black history and youth empowerment.
