22 Hands Up takes students to Grambling for High School Day

The local nonprofit 22 Hands Up hosted a field trip November 1, taking local youth to Grambling State University for its annual High School Day and to attend the Grambling vs. Alabama A&M football game.

The trip was open to students ages 11–18 and offered participants an opportunity to experience campus life at one of Louisiana’s historically Black universities.

Grambling High School Day is designed for prospective students, parents, and educators to learn about the university through tours, academic sessions, and student life activities. The event, held at the Fredrick Hobdy Assembly Center, ran from 7 AM to 7 PM.

Attendees toured the campus, met with faculty from more than 40 degree programs, and interacted with student organizations, athletic teams, and academic departments. The day also featured performances by the Tiger Marching Band and other university groups, as well as presentations about the admissions process.

“The students enjoyed a bus-guided campus tour, performances by the band, cheer and dance teams, and presentations by the GSU president and staff regarding enrollment, course options and more,” said 22 Hands Up Board President Reshonda Bradford. “It was a full but great day.”

22 Hands Up is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing education, employment, and empowerment opportunities for youth. The group focuses on helping young people develop responsibility, confidence, and life skills through real-world experiences.
