College football: Louisiana Tech’s Fields named CUSA Defensive Player of the Week

 Louisiana Tech linebacker Kolbe Fields was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league on Monday afternoon.  
 
Fields showed why he was named CUSA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year on Saturday against Southern Miss, helping lead LA Tech to its first 3-0 home start since 2019 with a 30-20 win. Fields recorded his first career interception return for a touchdown and led the Bulldogs with a team-high nine tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks.
 
The New Orleans native picked off a pass and returned it 48 yards for a score, giving Tech a 23-10 lead in the second quarter. The redshirt senior has led the Bulldogs in tackles in three of the team’s four games. Fields leads the team with 38 stops through for games to go along with 3.0 tackles for loss and two sacks.
 
This marks the fourth CUSA weekly award won by the Bulldogs this season.
