A traffic stop Monday afternoon on Sibley Road led to the arrest of a DeQuincy man on multiple charges, including being a fugitive and providing false identification, according to Louisiana State Police.
Troopers stopped a 2021 Nissan Sentra about 3:24 PM January 19 in the 1300 block of Sibley Road after observing dark window tint and a temporary tag with a handwritten date that was difficult to read, the report states. The tag was later determined to be valid.
The driver, identified as Jacory M. Griffin, 31, of DeQuincy, was ordered out of the vehicle. While approaching the car, a trooper reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana. Griffin was advised of his rights and gave consent for a search of the vehicle, but no contraband was found, authorities said.
A records check revealed Griffin had an active warrant listed in the National Crime Information Center database, according to the report. Troopers also determined the driver’s license he provided appeared fraudulent. Investigators said the document appeared to be a Louisiana instructional permit with that designation removed.
Griffin allegedly refused to provide his date of birth when asked and at one point told troopers he was “in my 30’s,” the report states. Authorities said he denied having any prior arrests and claimed he had only received traffic citations in Shreveport.
Troopers transported Griffin to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center for booking. With assistance from Webster Parish deputies, authorities used fingerprint and booking photo records to confirm his identity and that he was wanted on parole violations for armed robbery and identity theft / bank fraud charges, the report states.
Griffin was booked on charges of illegal window tint, being a fugitive, driving without a license and resisting an officer by providing false identification. He was then released to the custody of the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office, according to State Police.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
