Webster Parish officials urge caution as Bossier issues burn ban

by Amber McDown

Webster Parish has not issued a burn ban, but fire officials are strongly encouraging residents to avoid outdoor burning as dry conditions continue.

Minden Fire Chief and Director of the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Brian Williams said no request has been made by parish fire chiefs to implement a burn ban at this time.

“I have received no request from the Webster Parish Fire Chiefs for a burn ban at this time. If we do not receive any rain we will probably need to issue one soon,” Williams said. “We do strongly recommend residents refrain from burning at this time.”

In neighboring Bossier Parish, a burn ban has been issued.

The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office announced that, effective immediately, a burn ban is in place for all of Bossier Parish. Due to severe drought conditions, low humidity, and elevated winds, fire danger across the parish is extremely high. All outdoor burning is prohibited until further notice.

Officials are urging residents in both parishes to exercise caution as drought conditions persist.
