The Bossier Parish Community College  Cavaliers kicked off the second half of Region 14 conference play in strong fashion Wednesday, defeating Northeast Texas Community College 7-3 in the opener of a three-game series.

Leading the way on the mound was former Minden standout and McNeese State signee Brody Bower.

The right-hander delivered a gem, tossing six scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out five batters.

“Today was the start of the second half of conference, and we needed to get Game 1 of this series,” said BPCC head coach Bobby Gilliam. “Brody’s been good all year, but today he was better than good. He pitched like a vet and had all his stuff going.”

The Cavaliers jumped on the board early in the first inning. Catcher Gianluca Montanaro crushed a mammoth two-run home run that cleared the center field wall with plenty to spare, giving BPCC an immediate 2-0 lead.

The offense added insurance in the fourth inning when outfielder Mason Sanders launched a two-run home run of his own, extending the advantage to 4-0. BPCC continued to contribute throughout the lineup. Parkway product Brandon Levy went 2-for-4 at the plate, including an RBI triple.

After Bower’s strong outing, the bullpen closed it out effectively. Reliever Chase Randall handled the eighth and ninth innings.

BPCC improves to 18-12 and travels Saturday to Mount Pleasant, Texas for a doubleheader to conclude the 3-game series. Visit http://www.bpcc.edu/athletics for game schedules, tickets, and updates all season long.
