Minden man arrested following domestic disturbance involving children

by Minden Press-Herald

A Minden man was arrested April 4 following a reported domestic disturbance that left a woman injured and involved multiple children, according to police reports.

Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of East Street, where they made contact with the victim in the driveway. Authorities observed visible injuries, including blood on her clothing, a laceration on her arm, and swelling and bleeding on her cheek.

The suspect was identified as Derayis Taylor, 19, of Minden. According to the report, Taylor and the victim, who live together, began arguing earlier that day over a lack of money for gas. The argument escalated after Taylor returned from attempting to borrow money.

The victim told officers she went into the bathroom, where Taylor followed and struck her in the face twice. She said he then blocked her from leaving the room. After she was able to get past him, she went to a bedroom to call 911, but Taylor allegedly grabbed her from behind and threw her aside.

In an attempt to escape, the victim broke a bedroom window. Taylor then fled the residence in the victim’s vehicle, according to authorities.

Police later located Taylor after the vehicle ran out of gas near the Long Street area. He was taken into custody without incident. Officers reported Taylor advised them he had a firearm in his pocket at the time of arrest, though it was not used during the incident.

Authorities said eight children were present in the home during the incident.

Taylor was charged with domestic abuse battery with child endangerment, interfering with emergency communications, false imprisonment, and being a fugitive from the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office.

All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
