High school softball: Lakeside gets two wins in tournament

The Lakeside Lady Warriors picked up two victories Friday in the Buckeye tournament.

Lakeside defeated Buckeye 8-2 and Plainview 10-3.

Elsewhere, Glenbrook dropped an 8-7 heartbreaker to Haughton in eight innings at Glenbrook. North Webster fell to Summerfield 13-7 at Summerfield.

At the Buckeye tournament, the Lady Warriors broke a 2-2 tie against Buckeye with six runs in the top of the seventh. Ella Wood hit a three-run home run with one out to put Lakeside up 7-2.

The Lady Warriors had seven hits. Emily Jones went 2-for-4. 

Moose Jernigan scattered four hits in five innings. Wood pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

Lakeside had nine hits against Plainview. Meredith Robinson went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Wood and Jones both went 2-for-4 with one double each. Teal Austin had a triple.

Ella Wood didn’t give up a hit and struck out three in 3 1/3 innings. Peyton Wood struck out four in 3 2/3 innings.

Lakeview improved to 19-9.

At Glenbrook, the Lady Apaches led 5-4 through six innings. Haughton tied it with a run in the top of the seventh then scored three in the eighth. Glenbrook rallied with two in the bottom of the inning but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Gabi Brown went 3-for-5 with a home run, double and five RBI. Gracie Heard went 2-for-4. 

Ellie Earnhardt had two hits and two RBI. Chloe Gregg had a hit and walked twice.

Glenbrook dropped to 21-5. Haughton improved to 15-17.

At Summerfield, Ji’Siyah Bell went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Emma Newsom went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
