A community-wide event aimed at promoting inclusion and support for individuals with autism and their families is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, at Miller Quarters Park.

The first annual “Arms Around Autism” Acceptance Walk, hosted by Families Helping Families Region 7, will take place from 9 AM to 12 PM, with the walk beginning at 9:15 AM.

Organizers say the event is designed to go beyond awareness and focus on acceptance, bringing together residents to celebrate neurodiversity and foster a more inclusive community.

“This event is more than a walk, it’s a celebration of neurodiversity, a show of support for families, and a step toward building a community rooted in understanding and inclusion,” said Mayor Nick Cox.

The event will feature a variety of activities and resources for attendees, including bounce houses, a sensory-friendly kid zone, vendors, and information for families.

Families Helping Families Region 7 also encouraged community participation in its outreach.

“Let’s come together in unity to celebrate neurodiversity, show love, and move beyond awareness to true acceptance,” the organization said in a social media post. “Together, we can make a powerful impact in our community.”

Residents are invited to bring family and friends and take part in the walk and activities, which aim to support and uplift individuals with autism while strengthening community connections.
