A Bienville Parish elected constable was arrested late Monday, April 27, after a Minden traffic stop allegedly led to the discovery of methamphetamine, marijuana, a firearm, and additional violations, according to law enforcement information.
Shana Evans, constable for Bienville Parish District 4 and a resident of Ringgold, was taken into custody just before midnight after officers stopped her vehicle on Sibley Road for traffic violations.
Authorities said Evans was initially stopped for improper lane usage and improper display of a license plate. During the stop, a K9 unit conducted a free-air sniff of the vehicle, and the K9 alerted, prompting a search.
During that search, officers reportedly found approximately 1 gram of suspected methamphetamine, about 2 grams of suspected marijuana, a legend drug, and a black .22 caliber Beretta handgun inside Evans’ purse. According to the report, the methamphetamine was located next to Evans’ driver’s license.
Police also charged Evans with illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of controlled dangerous substances.
In addition, Evans was charged with misuse of 911 after allegedly calling emergency dispatch during the traffic stop. According to the report, Evans placed the call while officers were conducting the investigation.
Evans was booked on charges of improper lane usage, improper display of license plate, possession of a legend drug, possession of marijuana, possession of Schedule II methamphetamine, illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of controlled dangerous substances, and misuse of 911.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
