A Minden man was arrested Tuesday, April 28, after a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 80 led officers to discover methamphetamine and confirm multiple outstanding warrants, according to a Minden Police Department report.
Police said officers were alerted to a gray Infiniti G35 that was being driven with a five-day temporary tag that had expired March 12.
An officer initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of U.S. Highway 80 and Abney Street.
Upon making contact with the driver, identified as Brent Sikes, 32, officers were told that Sikes’ driver’s license was currently suspended. Police also reported that Sikes advised officers he had active bench warrants for failure to appear.
Dispatch later confirmed Sikes had three active bench warrants through the Minden Police Department for failure to appear for arraignment.
Officers then asked Sikes to exit the vehicle. During a pat-down, police requested and received consent to search both Sikes’ person and the vehicle.
According to the report, officers located approximately 1.2 grams of Schedule II methamphetamine in Sikes’ right pocket. A search of the vehicle did not uncover any additional contraband.
Sikes was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Minden Police Department for booking. His vehicle was towed from the scene.
Sikes was charged with possession of Schedule II methamphetamine, failure to register, driving under suspension, and the three active bench warrants. He was later transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
