Warm temperatures and the threat of rain did little to keep shoppers away from downtown Minden on Saturday as residents and visitors turned out for the latest Shop the Block event in the city’s historic Main Street district.
The monthly event brought foot traffic throughout downtown from the morning Farmer’s Market through afternoon shopping and dining activities. Visitors browsed boutiques, antique stores and specialty shops while music from DJ Milford Parker filled the district.
The Minden Farmer’s Market opened from 8 AM to noon in the alley beside Brick Street Coffee, giving shoppers an early start before continuing through downtown businesses participating in Shop the Block from 10 AM to 2 PM.
Stores across the district featured special promotions, pop-up vendors and giveaways. Purvey hosted $1 bins and a lemonade stand supporting Phillips Cottage, while Pippa Lane celebrated the building’s 100th anniversary with storewide sales and snacks. Geaux Fresh featured pop-ups from Out of the Blue, The Language of Movement, and Red Aspen.

Other participating businesses included Momma’s Little Corner, L’Kait Boutique, and BELLE ÂME with sales and Boutique Bucks promotions; Red Blooms with a book signing by Jory Lary and pottery from Christine Broussard; Hearth & Main Mercantile with gift basket promotions and giveaways; and El Santino, which hosted live music later in the evening.
Downtown Minden continues to see growth, with another new business recently opening in the district. Organizers said the steady expansion reflects growing interest in the city’s historic downtown and its mix of local shopping, dining and entertainment.
In addition to shopping, visitors were encouraged to explore downtown’s public art displays, including four murals located throughout the district that have become popular photo spots for families and tourists.
Antique shopping also remains a major draw for the area, with eight of Minden’s 13 antique stores located within the historic Main Street district.
Despite clouds and occasional threats of rain throughout the day, crowds continued moving between stores, restaurants and outdoor gathering spots, helping make another successful Shop the Block event for downtown merchants.
