A traffic stop in downtown Minden led to the arrest of a 29-year-old man after he allegedly provided officers with his brother’s identity in an attempt to avoid outstanding warrants, according to a Minden Police Department report.
On May 30, an officer on patrol observed a silver 2015 Honda Accord make an improper right turn from Pine Street onto Main Street. While following the vehicle, the officer also noticed the temporary Louisiana registration appeared illegible and possibly altered.
The officer initiated a traffic stop in the 100 block of Sibley Road and made contact with the driver, later identified as Carey Eason.
According to the report, Eason told the officer he did not have a driver’s license and had never been issued one. He also said he did not have registration or insurance paperwork because the vehicle belonged to his brother-in-law.
When asked for his name and date of birth, Eason allegedly identified himself as another individual. A records check revealed that person had a suspended driver’s license, and officers believed the information matched the driver based on a photograph associated with the record.
The driver was detained and informed he was under arrest for driving under suspension.
While completing an inventory of Eason’s personal property, officers reportedly discovered several cards bearing the name Carey Eason. At that point, police said Eason admitted he had lied about his identity and revealed that the name he initially provided belonged to his brother.
According to the report, Eason told officers he used his brother’s name because he knew he had several outstanding warrants through the Minden Police Department.
Eason was transported to the Minden Police Department and booked on six bench warrants, resisting an officer by failure to identify, driving under suspension, failure to register, improper turn, and improper display of a temporary registration plate.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
