American Legion invites public to annual Independence Day ceremony

by Amber McDown

Community members are invited to begin their Independence Day celebration with a patriotic tradition as the American Legion hosts its annual Changing of the Flags ceremony at Eagle Park on Turner’s Pond at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 4.

The annual event honors the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces and provides an opportunity for residents to reflect on the sacrifices made to preserve the nation’s freedoms.

The ceremony will feature the changing of the flags at Eagle Park, patriotic observances, and tributes to military veterans and those who gave their lives in service to the country.

Held each year on Independence Day, the gathering has become a local tradition for veterans, civic leaders, families, and community members. Organizers encourage residents of all ages to attend.

Eagle Park, located at Turner’s Pond, serves as a fitting backdrop for the ceremony, which combines remembrance, patriotism, and community spirit on the nation’s birthday.

American Legion members said the event is intended not only to honor the past, but also to remind future generations of the service and sacrifice that have helped shape the United States.

The ceremony is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early for the 9AM start time.
