Minden man arrested after alleged domestic assault, attack on taxi driver

by Minden Press-Herald

A Minden man was arrested Tuesday, June 23, after police say he assaulted his girlfriend and a taxi driver during an incident at a residence in the 200 block of Hillside Lane.

According to a Minden Police Department report, officers responded to the residence following a report of a disturbance involving Tracy Moore Jr., 34.

Upon arrival, officers detained Moore and advised him of his Miranda rights before placing him in a patrol vehicle.

Police interviewed Moore’s girlfriend, who alleged that while the two were inside her vehicle, Moore punched her with a closed fist and then choked her to the point that she believed she was going to die. Officers reported observing redness around one of the woman’s eyes.

A second victim, identified as a taxi driver, told police Moore punched her while she was dropping off a passenger. According to the report, the driver said she did not know Moore before the incident. Police also obtained a witness statement from the passenger who observed the altercation.

Investigators noted Moore had visible cuts on his hands. According to the report, Moore told officers he sustained the injuries after punching a wall at another location.

With the girlfriend’s consent, officers searched her vehicle and reported finding blood on the passenger-side dashboard and door.

During the search, police also recovered a plastic container from the rear floorboard containing approximately 3.4 grams of suspected marijuana and a grinder. In the center console, officers located a black case containing a glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine, a bag containing approximately 0.6 grams of a white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, and a torch lighter.

After arriving at the Minden Police Department, Moore allegedly became increasingly agitated. According to the report, he made several threatening statements toward officers, including saying he would “come see” them after his release. Moore reportedly made remarks such as “he was going to bang this bitch out,” “he was ready to die,” and “to kill him.” Officers removed Moore from a holding cell after he reportedly began kicking the steel door, citing concerns for his safety.

Police noted in the report that Moore has an extensive criminal history involving violence and force and recommended consideration of Gwen’s Law during bond proceedings.

Moore was transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.

He was charged with battery of a dating partner by strangulation and simple battery. The report did not indicate that drug charges had been filed in connection with the suspected narcotics recovered during the investigation.

All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
