Minden Head Coach Cody Davis has stepped down after four seasons.
Davis has accepted the positions of assistant baseball and football coach at Haughton, his alma mater.. He will coach running backs.
Davis had a successful stint at Minden.
His first team went 18-14 and lost in the first round of the non-select Division II playoffs. His second team went 26-12 and reached the quarterfinals. His third team went 21-16 and reached the second round.
Minden went 23-13 last season and reached the second round.
“It was a tough decision, but it was the right time,” Davis said. “I live close to here (Haughton) and I graduated from here. My best friend is (Haughton head football coach) Matthew Sewell so it was just kind of a perfect time I think for me.”
Davis said he enjoyed his time at Minden.
“I was really blessed to be the head coach,” he said. “It’s a very historic program. I definitely feel like we left that place better than what we found it. We had three straight 20-win seasons, won a playoff series for the first time ever, hosted a second round playoff game for the first time in 14 years. We did a lot of great things.
“And we sent some people places too. We’ve got Brody Bower who’s at McNeese now. We have two players who are at SAU. We had a dude (Landon Brewer) get drafted by the Rangers this year.
“I’m super blessed with my time there. A couple of people I’d like to thank would be Coach (Benjamin) Bower, obviously — learned a lot under him — Coach (Haynes) Mandino, my assistant, and Coach (Spencer) Heard, who is the head football coach. I just learned a ton from them. I’m super thankful for everybody there.”
Bower is now the principal at Minden. Anyone interested in the job should contact him at [email protected].
