David Allen “Dirty Dave” Nelson

David Allen “Dirty Dave” Nelson, 57, died Aug. 9, 2015, in Minden after a courageous battle with cancer.

David is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cindy, of Minden; son, Shaun (Joni), of Minden; granddaughters, Brooke and Kaylie Nelson who were the delight of his life, of Minden; step-mother, Iris Nelson, of Minden; brothers, Gary Nelson (Sue), of Pearland, Texas and Glen Nelson (Helen) of Minden; nieces, nephews, and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Maudie Nelson.

David was born on Nov. 6, 1957 in Minden where he has been a lifelong resident. From a young age, he was fascinated with mechanics and motors of all types. He always said there wasn’t a motor he couldn’t fix. David spent countless hours building and racing dirt track cars. Family and friends remember him as a hard worker who was always willing to help others. David was employed by Ad Signs for 25 years.

David was a family man and a loving father. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed nothing more than going on vacation with his granddaughters and supporting them in their pageant and cheer activities.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Gamble Hospice Care, B.J. Pike, Jimmy Perryman, Ad Signs, Smith Marine, Shane and Cale Frye and Roughneck Rentals.

At David’s request, his body will be donated to the Louisiana State University for the advancement of science. A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church in Minden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the David Nelson Medical Account at MBL Bank or the charity of the donor’s choice.
