Rebecca Campbell Marvin, or Becky as most knew her, went to her heavenly home on August 30, 2026. She was born September 14, 1935, in Minden, Louisiana to John T. And Mary Hays Campbell.
A 1953 graduate of Minden High School, Becky attended Louisiana State University where she earned her degree in education and met the love of her life, Charles A. “Corky” Marvin. They married in August 1956.
Becky began her teaching career while living in Baton Rouge and returned to teaching in 1975, retiring after 24 years, primarily teaching second grade at Stewart Elementary. During her time at Stewart, she became known for teaching the history of Mardi Gras through full-court celebrations, parades and costumes. Many of her students carried fond memories of those special days throughout their lives, and she continued the tradition with her grandchildren at Glenbrook School until her death.
Becky was a devoted member of First Methodist Church Minden for 70 years. She taught children’s Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for more than 50 years and faithfully served through the Altar Guild, Bereavement Committee, Board of Trustees, and Parsonage committee, among many other roles. She also spearheaded the beloved gingerbread houses that children decorated at Christmas.
Her love of service extended beyond the church. She was a past member of the Minden Junior Service League, served on the board of the Dorcheat Historical Museum, and was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, a teaching sorority. She was also known for cooking and serving beignets at the Minden St. Jude Auction.
Becky’s passions were many. She was an avid sports fan who proudly followed her grandchildren, the LSU tigers, Lady Techsters and Duke Basketball. And if you knew Becky, you knew that her love for animals was nearly impossible to surpass; there was rarely a time she could be found without a beloved pet nearby.
She loved entertaining and bringing people together. Even during her final weeks, she could be found hosting her Friday night ladies’ group and Bunco group as well as helping plan future events for the church.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Corky.
She is survived by her four children: Melissa Brown (Gary), Michele Simoneaux (Rodney), Schuyler Marvin (Jodi), Mary Margaret Johnson (Bruce). Along with grandchildren: Hays Brown, Caroline Brown Fusilier, Mary Catherine Brown Caddell, Stephen Simoneaux, Sarah Simoneaux Bernard, Mary Claire Simoneaux Burns, Rebecca Simoneaux Newton, Sam Marvin, Kate Marvin, Camille Marvin, Olivia Johnson, Emma Johnson, Charlie Johnson. And 17 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her best friend and first cousin, Sara Ruth Richard, and her other best friends, Cora Lou Robinson and Jackie Frazier.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to her caregivers and helpers, Leonard Harris, Shannon Washington, Jimmy Hawk, Precious Edwards and Barbara Boswell.
A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, September 2nd at 11:00 am at First Methodist Minden, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to First Methodist Minden for the Wesley Room or the Minden St. Jude Auction.
Pall bearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
Becky’s greatest legacy will not be measured by what she accomplished, but by the love she gave so freely to her family. She was the rock of our family who kept us close and our faith strong. Her love, wisdom, and unwavering faith will continue to guide us for generations to come.
