A Texas man was arrested on drug charges after Minden police reportedly discovered eight packages of marijuana in his vehicle during a traffic stop on Interstate 20. Three children under the age of 10 were also in the vehicle.

Charles Antron Matthews, 40, of Little Elm, Texas, was stopped on Interstate 20 eastbound near mile marker 47 after an officer clocked him traveling 84 mph in a 70 mph zone.

According to the Minden Police Department report, the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Matthews also reportedly admitted he did not have a driver’s license.

During a search, police discovered a bag wrapped in clothing in the bed of the vehicle. The bag contained eight individual packages of suspected marijuana, varying in type and quantity.

After being advised of his Miranda rights, Matthews allegedly admitted the marijuana belonged to him.

Further investigation revealed Matthews was reportedly out on bond in Texas for a separate charge involving possession of five pounds of marijuana.

Matthews was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of minors, speeding, and driving without a license.

All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
