Taylor
Lee Vergia Taylor was born to the parents of Casien (Pap) Taylor and Savannah Rivers Taylor on Dec. 8, 1931 in Natchitoches Parish. He was known to family and friends as L.V. He was the third of nine children born.
Lee V. accepted Christ at an early age as his personal Savior at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the pastorate of the Rev. B. F. Vernon. He began his educational pursuits at Creston Elementary School, then to Central High School in Natchitoches, but was drafted into the United States Army where he served two years during the Korean War. He, then, returned to finish high school.
After attending two years at Grambling College, he moved to Long Beach, California. There he met and married, Blanche. There were no children born to this union.
Lee V. joined the Southwood Baptist Church under the pastorate of the Rev. Roy L. Roberson in Los Angeles, California. He served on the Usher Board. He also, began his work career at the Veterans Hospital in Long Beach.
After the marriage failed, he moved back to Bossier City, Louisiana. He continued his work profession at the Veterans Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana.
He then met and married Ethreedyl Morris and to this union no children were born. They made their residence in Minden, Louisiana. Lee V. united with the St. Rest Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. B. F. Martin. He was a faithful member of the Usher Ministry and Sunday School and he loved it.
After retirement, he worked as a volunteer for U-CAP, a program that helps the needy.
On Feb. 1, 1996, his loving wife Ethreedyl was called to be with the Lord. He was alone again.
Finally, he met and married Chris Harris. There were no children born to this union, but he helped raise Chris’ children as his own. After a short time, the marriage ended in divorce. L.V. decided that marriage just wasn’t for him.
In July 2009, his health began to fail him. He was admitted to the Veteran Hospital. Upon discharge from the hospital, he became a resident of the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Bossier City. He then was later transferred to North West Louisiana War Veteran Home, also in Bossier City.
L. V. Taylor was called to be with the Lord on Feb. 1, 2016 at Overton Brooks VA Hospital at 5:36 pm. He is survived by two sisters, Ruby Thomas of Los Angeles and Vera Louis (St. Clair) of Gardenia, California; step-brother, Stevie C. Harrison of Houston; two brothers-in-law, the Rev. James Johnson of Monroe and St. Clair Louis of Gardenia, California; a cousin he considered a brother, the Rev. Amos Taylor of Shreveport; a long time neighbor he considered a brother, Leroy Oliver; the children of his former wife, Chris; a special goddaughter Shauna Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and his St. Rest Church family.
L. V. Taylor touched many lives during his earthly journey. He loved helping people.
Funeral services for Mr. L. V. Taylor will be on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Rest Baptist Church. The Rev. B. J. Martin, Pastor will officiate. Interment will follow at the Sheppard Street Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 12 from 10 a.m until 7 p.m. in the chapel of Kennon’s Mortuary.
