DOYLINE – It was a tough day for the Panthers of Doyline, as Montgomery came to town Tuesday and trounced the home team 16-2.
The Panthers scored two runs in the first inning, but were shut out the rest of the way while committing seven fielding errors behind Doyline starter Cameron Smith.
The senior right-hander went three innings allowing three earned runs and striking out three batters.
Parker Hearne had an RBI double to lead the offense, followed by Nick Burge, Jax Gaynor and Hunter Carter with singles.
The Panthers next game is Thursday at Castor for a 5 p.m. district contest.
Lady Panthers
The Doyline Lady Panthers also fell Tuesday, 8-2, on the road against Quitman.
The Lady Panthers also scored two runs in the first inning, but like the Panther boys, they were shut out the rest of the game.
Haley Machen and Kim Coleman each had two singles to lead the Lady Panthers. Both girls finished with one RBI as well.
Coleman pitched the entire game for Doyline, pitching six innings, allowing one earned run, four hits and striking out five batters.
The Lady Panthers will get back on the diamond today against the Southwood Lady Cowboys at home, starting at 5 p.m.
