Northwest Louisiana is going to miss most of the heavier rains from the remnants of Hurricane Harvey, weather officials said.
National Weather Service C.S. Ross said Harvey made its second landfall in the early hours of Wednesday morning at Cameron Parish and moved northeast throughout the day into Thursday morning.
“We’ll see periods of light to moderate rain,” he said. “The heavier rain should remain to the east from north central Louisiana from Ruston down to Alexandria and points eastward.”
He said rain will vary from about a half inch to 2 to 4 inches through Thursday. Points eastward from Ruston to Monroe could see as much as 8 inches of rain, he added.
As Harvey moves northward to Kentucky all the way to Iowa, Louisiana will have a drying out period. Rain is expected to be out of the Ark-La-Tex by Thursday, and Friday through the weekend should be dry, he said.
“We’re calling for drying out and a good start to the holiday weekend,” Ross said.
The weekend will be partly cloudy with highs of about 89 and lows in the upper 60s, he said.
“It’s not too bad for the holiday weekend,” he added.
Wednesday night, officials downgraded Tropical Storm Harvey to a depression.
