Leo Walker

Leo Walker was born March 7, 1925 in Gibsland to Willie Walker and Viola Holliday Walker. He was the oldest child of this parentage.
He accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Pine Grove B.C. Leo united in marriage to Bessie Roper.

Leo was employed by Chrysler and General Motors for over thirty years until his retirement.

On Nov. 27, 2005, Leo Walker united in Holy Matrimony to Ruthell Hardin. Together they shared many precious and lasting memories. United in their faith in Christ, they joined the City on A Hill Pentecostal Church.

Leo loved horses, was an avid sports fan, and loved to sing. He was always known as a sharp and classic dresser, matching from his head to his feet.

On Nov. 9, 2017, Leo Walker departed this earthly life for his heavenly reward. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Willie O. Walker and Governor Walkers; and sisters, Ernie Jenkins and Ola McClendon.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife, Ruthell Hardin Walker; sons, Derrial Martin (Rosha) of Roswell, Georgia, Lonnie Raly Walker (Jenell) of Flint, Michigan, Leonard Walker of Flint, and Fredrick Walker of Ringgold; daughters, Robin Smith (Stephen) of Richmond, Virginia, Carolyn Wright (Melton) of Flint, and Rosie Carter (Bobby) of Minden; 19 grandchildren, which includes his devoted caregiver, Gloria Rankin; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; great-great-great-grandchildren; brothers Cleo Walker of Houston and Eddie Walker of Kansas City, Kansas; sister, Onnie B. Johnson of Houston; and a host other relatives and friends. He will forever be remembered and greatly missed.

Celebration of life services will be held Saturday, Nov. 18, 1 p.m. at the City on A Hill Pentecostal Church with Pastor Jeff Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Ada/Taylor.

Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 17 in the chapel of Kennon’s Mortuary from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with family hour from 6 p.m. until 7. Services are entrusted to Kennon’s Mortuary. Email condolences may be sent to [email protected].
