SPRINGHILL – Calling all steak lovers: Springhill is the place to be Saturday as Piggly Wiggly will be holding its 12th Annual Steak Cookoff.

The competition has grown immensely over the years, with teams competing from all over the surrounding area, including competition from Arkansas.

Proceeds from this event will go to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

This event is sanctioned by the Steak Cookoff Association, with the first place team earning $1,500 and an invitation to the 2018 SCA Steak World Championship in Fort Worth, Texas, Oct. 4-7.

Several other cash prizes will be awarded. The second place winner will take home $700, and third place will earn $400.

A family event, the Steak Cookoff will have several activities for the kids as well, including bounce houses, karaoke, and their very own Porkchop Cookoff for ages 4-17. Also, steak dinners made by Cowboy Catering will be available for pick up, including sides of potato salad and baked beans.

The competition is real, and the ‘steaks’ are high all day Saturday. Team set up begins at 8 a.m., and the award presentation at 5 p.m.
