BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A 13-year-old Baton Rouge boy has pleaded guilty to negligent homicide in the shooting death of a first grader.
The Advocate reports the older boy entered the guilty plea Monday. He also faced a gun charge, but it was dropped.
Officials say 6-year-old Jahiem Holliday was shot and killed in the backyard of a home on Nov. 2. Prosecutors say the older boy pointed a gun at the 6-year-old and fired a shot. The defense says it happened accidentally while the boys pretended to film a rap music video.
The 13-year-old will face adjudication on July 10 in East Baton Rouge Parish Juvenile Court. Adjudication is equivalent to sentencing in the adult court system. The judge says the maximum penalty for a juvenile who commits negligent homicide is five years.
