High school softball: Minden, Lakeside fall in second round of playoffs

The Minden Lady Tiders and Lakeside Lady Warriors fell in the second round of the playoffs Wednesday.

Minden, the No. 12 seed, lost to No. 5 Brusly 10-0 in a non-select Division II game at Brusly.

Lakeside, the No. 9 seed, lost to No. 8 Vinton 10-6 in a non-select Division IV game at Vinton.

At Brusly, the host Lady Panthers led 1-0 after two innings then scored seven in the third.

The Lady Tiders got one hit off Brusly ace Amelia Bouvier in the five-inning game. Lindsay Ryan had a single in the first inning.

Kylie Ryan, who enjoyed an outstanding junior season in the circle and at the plate, went the distance.

Minden, the District 1-4A runner-up, closed its season 20-12. Brusly improved to 28-6.

At Vinton, Lakeside got off to a great start with four runs in the first.

Vinton answered with two in the bottom of the inning and tied it at 4 with two more in the third.

The Lady Lions scored four in the fourth. The Lady Warriors cut the lead to two with two in the top of the sixth.

Vinton extended the lead back to four with two in the bottom of the inning.

Hallie Sutton went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.

McKenna Chreene went 2-for-3 with two doubles. 

Mackenzie McCoy, Raleah Harris and Paiton Levesque had one hit and one RBI apiece.

Emily Jones also had a hit.

Chreene completed an outstanding season in the circle with nine strikeouts.

Lakeside finished 20-11. The Lady Warriors won 14 more games than they did in 2022.

Vinton improved to 19-10.
