High school baseball: Glenbrook downs Haughton; Minden splits games in Lakeside tournament

The Glenbrook Apaches defeated the Haughton Bucs 13-8 in the first of a three-game series Thursday at Haughton.

Elsewhere, Minden split home games that were part of the Lakeside tournament. The Crimson Tide fell to Airline 2-1 then rebounded with a 3-2 victory over Loyola.

North Webster dropped a 12-3 decision to D’Arbonne Woods in the first of a three-game series in Springhill.

Lakeside lost to Cedar Creek 1-0 on the opening night of its tournament.

At Haughton, Landry Powell went 4-for-4 with a triple, double and three RBI.

Dawson Day went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Sam Ricord had two RBI.

Haughton led 4-0 after two innings. The Apaches then scored seven in the top of the third.

Powell had two singles in the inning. Preston Frye and Ryan Reagan also singled. Glenbrook took advantage of three walks, a hit-by-pitch and an error.

The Bucs answered with three in the bottom of the frame.

Glenbrook tacked on two more in the sixth and two in the seventh.

The Apaches improved to 3-6. Haughton dropped to 8-3. Game 2 is scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m. at Glenbrook.

At Minden, Jacob Jefferson scored the go-ahead run against Loyola on a single by Jaxon Smith with one out in the sixth. Hudson Brown and Zander Rowell had back-to-back singles in the inning.

Rowell went 2-for-2 in the game. Fresh of a perfect game, Rowell went the distance on the mound. He gave up 11 hits but limited the damage. 

The Tide turned a double play to end the game.

Brody Bower allowed six hits, struck out eight and walked only one against Airline. Bryson Ranger went 2-for-3 with a double.

Airline scored both of its runs in the top of the fifth.

Jamall Carey scored Minden’s run in the bottom of the sixth on a groundout by Brown. The Tide left a runner at third.

Minden (8-4) put runners at first and second with two outs in the seventh but a lineout ended the game.

At Lakeside, Cedar Creek scored the only run of the pitchers’ duel in the top of the first 

Cedar Creek’s Max Brister allowed four hits, struck out five and walked one.

Lakeside’s Hunter Sutton gave up five hits, struck out eight and walked one. Cedar Creek’s run was unearned.

Sutton also went 2-for-3. Lakeside is scheduled to play Texas High Friday at 8 p.m.

At North Webster, the Knights dropped to 7-4. D’Arbonne Woods improved to 5-2.

The teams are scheduled to complete the series with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 in Farmerville.
